Choosing a College
If you haven't already done so, we recommend that you first select a college to be your "home" college where you will complete most of your courses. To search for colleges within the California Community College system, visit the Chancellor's Office website:
https://www.cccco.edu/Students/Find-a-College
Applying to a College
Once you've selected a home college, you'll need to apply to that college. Applications are online, and you'll usually find an "apply now" link within Course Finder or somewhere on the college's home web page. You will usually be notified by the college of your acceptance via email within five (5) to seven (7) business days. (Be sure to check your spam folder.)
Note: Applications are managed by CCCApply, not by CVC-OEI. For all questions related to your application, you must contact CCCApply Support: https://home.cccapply.org/en/help
High School Students/Dual Enrollment
Individual colleges generally have dual enrollment procedures where minors can enroll at the college and another school (usually high school) concurrently. To learn more contact the admissions office at the college you want to attend. You may need transcripts when you enroll in the college class. Please check with the school counselor to verify campus guidelines.

After Acceptance
After you apply and are accepted, you'll receive a Student ID number. With this, you can contact your college's Counseling Department and arrange to meet with an academic counselor to explore career and educational options and to select a program of study. Your counselor can map out your college path in the form of a "student education plan." (Most colleges offer a way for you to meet with a counselor online or by phone.)
You should be able to find most of the courses you need at your home college. For those courses you cannot find, return to http://cvc.edu/ to use the Course Finder tool.
Here's how to use it: https://search.cvc.edu/faq
Enrollment and Waitlist
CVC-OEI is a source of information about currently available community college classes in California. Most of the classes have set start and end times and are not open enrollment. You must apply to the college offering the class and take care of all enrollment issues directly with that college.
Note: It is important to work with a counselor and/or admissions advisor to make sure that you enroll in the classes you need for transfer. Course Finder is focused on the IGETC and CSU Breadth requirements, but individual departments and colleges may have additional requirements.
Seat Counts
The Course Finder provides students with information on online classes that are available throughout the California community colleges. Some colleges have chosen to provide current seat count information which updates automatically. "Seat count unavailable" is not an indicator of whether or not the course is still open, it simply means that particular college is not providing a live update of seat counts to CVC.edu at this time. Current seat count and open/waitlisted status information can be found on the college's website, typically in the online searchable class schedule.
Registering / Paying for Classes
On or after the registration date (available in the teaching college portal), a student can register for the course. At that time, they will have an outstanding tuition fee from the teaching college and can pay in their student portal.
